About the Team

The Navy and Marine Corps exist to control the seas, and project power beyond the sea, to influence events and advance American interests across the full spectrum of military operations. The Navy/Marine Corps Team assures maritime access around the world. Above all, we defend our homeland, both through our actions overseas-where America's security begins-and by our efforts here at home.

Three fundamental pillars support the Navy/Marine Corps Team. They are:

We assure access. Assuring seabased access worldwide for military operations, diplomatic interaction, and humanitarian relief efforts. In a world increasingly categorized by reduced forward basing, we provide access for the entire joint force. Our nation counts on us to do this. We cover the spectrum and enable access where and when others cannot.

We fight and win. Projecting power from the sea to influence events ashore both at home and overseas. We project both offensive power and defensive capability ashore. Our Navy/Marine Corps Team is ready to fight and win both here at home and in the farthest reaches of the earth. This is our most fundamental task. It defines who we are.

We are continually transforming. Transforming concepts, organizations, doctrine, technology, networks, sensors, platforms, weapon systems, training programs, education, and our approach to people. In a rapidly changing world, we have, and will continue to transform ourselves in many ways. We are building on a winning team, leveraging both current and transformational capabilities. The ability to continuously transform is at the heart of America's competitive advantage.

In all that we do, we seek to assure our allies and friends; dissuade future military competition; deter threats and coercion against U.S. interests; and if deterrence fails, win decisively against any adversary.
